ENDFURANCE, STRENGTH, POWER and SPEED SOCCER TRAINING

I.                   Merlin Soccer Club Training Philosophy

MSC Philosophy is simple Practice like you Play and Play Like you Practice Soccer, like other team sports on the professional level, require an enormous of sport specific skills. In the modern game, however, these problems can only be solved if you also have the necessary physical qualities. You cannot make it at the top without Endurance, Speed, Strength and Power. It is my job to diagnose and correct a players athletic deficiencies while always keeping in mind the functional requirements of the game of soccer.

II.                MSC Athlete Training Program

The MSC Athlete Training Program consists of two basic components.

General soccer-related conditioning training: This type of training does involve playing soccer but approximates soccer situations as closely as possible. Sprinting exercises, for example, contain soccer ingredients such as turning and changing direction, stopping and accelerating. During endurance training the interval principle must be applied. This type of training is suitable for establishing the conditional basis needed to play soccer a certain level.

Specific soccer-related conditioning training: This involves conditioning players to deal with soccer situations on the basis of what is required in a given match situation. During a game, players always sprint and jump for a purpose, such as to keep the ball in play or to head a cross towards the goal. The purpose of the training situations referred to here is therefore related to specific soccer situations. This type of conditioning is intended to develop a players basic fitness a stage further and to make him match fit
